The Power Behind Prayer

In the book of Daniel, Daniel sought God fervently because of the dilapidated state of His people and homeland.  He went before God with all of His heart and as a result God heard and sent help on Daniel’s behalf.  “While I was pouring out my heart, baring my sins and the sins of my people Israel, praying my life out before my God, interceding  for the holy mountain of my God-while I was absorbed in this praying, the humanlike Gabriel, the one I had seen in an earlier vision, approached me, flying in like a bird about the time of evening worship. He stood before me and said, Daniel, I have come to make things plain to you.  You had no sooner started your prayer when the answer was given.  And now I’m here to deliver the answer to you.  You are much loved!  So listen carefully to the answer, the plain meaning of what is revealed…” (Daniel 9:20-23)

Some people say why are you going to JUST pray about it, DO something about it!  As a believer it is always best to talk to God first before you move on a situation.  It is not lazy or fool-hearted to pray about something.  When you pray heaven responds!  In this example as soon as Daniel began to pray God sent an angel to fight demonic principalities on Daniel’s behalf.  The angel was able to provide much needed comfort and direction for Daniel.  I think I would rather go into a fight with heavenly hosts having my back then going into a gun fight with a knife.

Also did you notice that Gabriel came “flying in like a bird”  during evening worship.  That is another key.  Make sure before you go into prayer enter into the Lord’s presence or “courts” with sincere praise (Psalm 100:4).  At times we may not feel like praising or even cracking a smile but make every effort to have a thankful heart and a praise on your lips, there is always someone who is hurting more than you.
